Cleaning Your Handmade Jewelry: How to Keep Those Handmade Pieces Looking Brand New

At Meadowbelle, we spend a great deal of time ensuring your handmade piece is of the highest quality metal and the gemstones are as brilliant as possible.  We thoroughly clean and inspect each piece before it is lovingly wrapped and sent to you.  We want to ensure your jewelry sparkles for a long time and that requires some gentle TLC and a few easy steps.

Cleaning handmade jewelry requires careful attention to preserve its beauty and quality. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you keep your handmade jewelry looking brand new:

  • Remove your handmade jewelry before applying lotions, perfumers or hair products as these can tarnish or damage the metal or gemstones.
  • Gently wipe your jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove dirt, oils, and sweat that can accumulate.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners or jewelry dips, as these can damage delicate materials, gemstone and metal finishes.
  • Gemstones have varying levels of hardness and sensitivity.  Ask us about the specific care instructions for your specific gemstone.
  • Sterling silver can tarnish over time so use a polishing cloth or special silver cleaner to remove tarnish.  Because Meadowbelle only uses solid sterling silver, our jewelry can forever be returned to its original shine.
  • Gold can lose shine due to oils and dirt so gently cleaning gold jewelry with a mild soap and water will bring that sparkle back.
  • For more thorough cleaning, create a mild solution of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Soak your jewelry for a few minutes, then use a soft brush (such as a toothbrush with soft bristles) to gently scrub away dirt and debris. Be cautious with delicate stones and materials – avoid excessive scrubbing. Pat dry with a soft clean towel or paper towel.  Allow jewelry to dry completely.
  • We always recommend storing jewelry in cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.  An anti-tarnish bag would help limit any tarnishing that can happen when exposed to air.

We want to make sure your special jewelry piece remains a part of your life for as long as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about cleaning your jewelry, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help!
